Celsa Group, the largest Spanish long steel group, is to revamp its medium sections mill in Castellbisbal, near Barcelona in Northeastern Spain, equipment provider SMS Group said on Thursday.
The revamp, which will take place over the summer maintenance periods in 2020 and 2021, involves the upgrade of the compact roller straightener (CRS) this summer, to allow it to straighten heavier products, and the installation of a new cooling bed in the summer shutdown of 2021.
“The planned revamp will enable Celsa Barcelona to add HEA and HEB 600 [grades] to its portfolio and further enhance its production efficiency,” SMS group said.
The Castellbisbal medium sections mill has an annual capacity of 1 million mt, and produces a range of I and H beams as well as U sections in the S235JR, S355JO and S355J2 grades.
Platts European medium sections price (category 1, S235 JR) was assessed at Eur540/mt delivered Wednesday, unchanged week on week, as European mills looked to hold domestic steel sections prices stable, despite sharp falls in the bellwether Turkish import ferrous scrap market.
In June 2019, Celsa Group started construction of a new Eur60 million rolling mill at its French plant, in the Bayonne region in Southwestern France.
