ArcelorMittal’s Construction division has taken over panel manufacturer Italpanelli Deutschland with the aim of driving forward the production of CO2-reduced insulation products for the construction industry.
Italpanelli Deutschland, based in Föhren near Trier, produces wall and roof panels with a polyurethane rigid foam core or rock wool core for the industrial, commercial, residential and cold storage sectors on two state-of-the-art production lines. The company employs 70 people.
“Italpanelli’s product offering, combined with ArcelorMittal Construction’s innovation capabilities, will meet the construction sector’s growing need to reduce a building’s CO2 emissions,” explains Lars Pfeiffer, ceo of North East Europe at ArcelorMittal Construction.
As part of its sustainability and climate protection strategy, ArcelorMittal Construction will develop a range of panels made from its proprietary XCarb recycled and renewably produced steel, the company tells Kallanish.
It estimates that using XCarb recycled and renewably produced steel reduces the carbon footprint of manufacturing an insulated panel by 45% for an 80mm thick sandwich panel. The company expects the accompanying environmental product declarations (EPDs) to be available by the end of the second quarter of 2023.
