Spanish long steel supplier Celsa has officially completed the upgrade of the structural sections mill at its Castellbisbal plant, Kallanish learns from the company.
On 11 April, the steelmaker commissioned a new cooling system at the rolling mill. The project is part of a €33 million investment that enables Celsa to add HEA and HEB 600 beams to its portfolio and further enhance its production efficiency.
“This investment has made us the only producer of long beams in Spain, meaning the national market will no longer need to import this type of material, which currently only four companies manufacture in Europe,” Celsa Group chief executive Francesc Rubiralta commented during the mill’s opening ceremony.
Celsa’s new, higher-capacity cooling bed, compact roller straightener (CRS), as well as modified electrical and automation systems were supplied by Germany’s SMS Group.
Celsa’s steel production facilities in Castellbisbal comprise an electric arc furnace meltshop, bar rolling and wire rod mills, as well as sections mill. The annual production capacity of the plant is 2.5 million tonnes.
