EUROMETAL & Fastmarkets webinar on CBAM

EUROMETAL and Fastmarkets co-hosted today a high-level webinar to address one of the most pressing issues currently facing the steel industry: the implementation of the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and its potential impact on the steel supply chain.

The session, chaired by EUROMETAL President Alexander Julius, attracted over 350 live participants, with more than 400 professionals registered from across Europe and beyond — demonstrating the strong interest and urgency surrounding this topic.

The webinar began with a presentation by Shyamal Patel, Head of Modelling for Carbon Markets at Fastmarkets, who introduced a Fastmarkets CBAM Cost Calculator – a new tool designed to help market participants estimate CBAM-related costs based on their import volumes and emissions profiles. The calculator aims to bring greater clarity and transparency to what is expected to become a complex compliance process, particularly for importers, distributors, and service centers that operate across borders.

Following the tool demonstration, the webinar transitioned into a panel discussion moderated by Julia Bolotova, Strategic Markets Editor at Fastmarkets. The panel brought together leading voices from the industry, including Alfonso Hidalgo de Calcerrada, Chief Economist at UNESID; Jaap Jan Aardenburg, Head of Trade Affairs at Tata Steel Nederland; and Tayfun Iseri, Coordinator at Colakoglu Metalurji. Together, they discussed how CBAM is likely to reshape trade dynamics, influence pricing strategies, and affect competitiveness across different segments of the steel value chain.

The conversation also addressed the uneven impact of CBAM across market players. While large integrated producers may be better positioned to absorb carbon-related costs, independent distributors and processors will likely face greater challenges due to their reliance on imports and limited ability to pass on costs.

If you were unable to attend the live session, EUROMETAL invites you to watch the full webinar recording, now available.
