Italian passenger car output increased year-on-year in May following a first-quarter decline and an uptick in April, Kallanish notes from local carmakers’ association Associazione Nazionale Filiera Industria Automobilistica (Anfia) preliminary data.
Production of passenger cars stood at 49,177 units in May, a remarkable increase of 22.4% compared to May 2021. However, output fell by 1.6% on-year over the first five months of the year to 209,111 units, Anfia says.
January-April passenger car production had stood at 160,746 units against 173,117 in January-April 2021.
In comparison, Spanish car output increased by 1% to 159,608 cars in May and fell by 9% to 744,227 in the first five months of the year. In Germany, January-May output slid 6% y-o-y to 1,388,800 units, while January-June output fell 3% y-o-y to 1,685,800 units. It increased by 19% in June alone to 302,500 cars. UK car production in January-May declined by some 23.2% to 330,185 units, but hiked 13% in May to 62,284 cars, Anfia reveals.
Italian passenger car output decreased by 2.1% y-o-y in full-year 2021 to 442,432 units. It stood at 451,718 units in 2020 versus 542,472 units in 2019.
Italy has 23 car production plants. By comparison, Spain has 17 plants, France 31 and Germany 42.
