Metinvest’s trading arm, Metinvest-SMC, has delivered steel angles produced in Poland to Ukraine, Kallanish notes. These were previously made at the company’s destroyed plant Azovstal in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian city of Mariupol, the enterprise claims.
The imported products from Poland meet international standards PN-EN10056-2 PN-EN10025-1 PN-EN10025-2. The angles are available in the following sizes: 160x160x10 for S235JR¸140x140x9 for S275JR or S235JR, and 140х140х10 for S235JR.
According to Metivst-SMC, angles are used as elements of steel structures in the construction of buildings and other structures. This product is also widely used in other areas, such as the production of racks, fences, frames and other metal structures.
“We plan to maintain a constant availability of such goods and the first batch has already been sent to our Distribution Centre in the city of Dnipro,” the firm added, but did not disclose the identity of the Polish producer.
In March, Metinvest-SMC delivered a new batch of Italian hot rolled plate to its metal centre in Ternopil, Ukraine (see Kallanish passim). The manufacturer of the product is Italian subsidiary Metinvest Trametal SPA, which is helping Ukrainian buyers with rolled metal products that are currently in short supply, the enterprise claims.
In 2022, Metinvest-SMC arranged the import into Ukraine of more than 4,600 tonnes of hot-rolled flats and scarce thick plate from its assets in Italy (see Kallanish passim). The firm also supplied cold rolled coil for Doors Bulat’s Chernihiv factory.
Unlike Italy, however, Metinvest does not have a steel production unit in Poland.
Traditionally, before the outbreak of war in Ukraine, Metinvest’s destroyed Mariupol-based plants would supply plate and hot rolled coil to the Italian market, as well as slab for re-rolling at its Italian plants.
Currently, most Metinvest Group facilities in Ukraine are operating at less than 50% of their capacity (see Kallanish passim).
Metinvest saw 2022 crude steel output decrease by 69% on-year to 2.92 million tonnes and pig iron production fall 72% to 2.74mt amid the war.
