Steelmaker SSAB and construction company Peab said they are to continue their collaboration, including deliveries of SSAB Zero which is made using recycled steel and fossil-free energy.
Peab plans to use around half the initial 300 mt delivery volume for micro piles for foundations and the other half in construction work already this year, making Peab the first construction company in the world to use SSAB Zero.
The two companies declined to give further details about the supply deals.
The primary cause of CO2-emissions from Peab’s operations is from the use of various materials, such as steel, in production, the company said.
Overall, the construction and real estate sector stands for about 20% of total CO2-emissions in Sweden. Peab has a target to be climate neutral no later than 2045 and an aim to reduce the carbon dioxide intensity for input goods by 50% by 2030.
SSAB Zero, launched in March, has less than 0.05 kg CO2e emissions per kg steel in scope 1 and 2 fossil carbon emission in operations, including purchased energy and transportation.
The aim is to deliver 40,000 mt of SSAB Zero to the market in 2023, ramping up to around 100,000 mt in 2025. Volvo Group has signed a deal.
