Some rebar demand should resurface in the second half of the year, Italian rebar steelmaker Feralpi president Giuseppe Pasini told Kallanish on the sidelines of last week’s Made In Steel tradeshow in Milan.
Despite the current weaker demand for all long products, which started in the fourth quarter last year, the company registered a record turnover in 2022 of €2.5 billion ($2.7 billion). In 2021, Feralpi reached a turnover of €1.9 billion, and €1.2 billion in 2020.
The company is implementing a significant investment plan of approximately €400 million in 2022-2026. The plan prioritises optimisation and reduction of energy costs, increasing the use of renewable energy and cutting gas consumption in Italy and at the company’s German subsidiary. Feralpi is also considering creating a new company to build two photovoltaic plants in Sardinia and Basilicata of 100MW and 90MW, respectively.
The steelmaker is also reported to be considering listing on the stock exchange. However, Pasini declined to comment on this.
