Riva Group has modernised the four-strand wire rod mill at German rebar works Riva BES – Brandenburger Elektrostahlwerke – Kallanish learns from plant-builder Danieli, which was contracted for the project.
Within the project, four laying heads and pinch rolls were supplied at one time. The new rolling lines produce up to 270 tonnes/hour of low-, medium- and high-carbon steel rounds in diameters of 5.5-16mm, and rebar from 6-16mm, in 1,575kg coils.
The new laying heads are Danieli-patented high-tech oil film bearing units designed to reach speeds up to 140 metres/second, the technology supplier notes. Its latest generation of active pinch rolls equipped with Electro-Hydrostatic Actuators – EHA – also play a key role, providing an optimal gap/force setting over the entire rolling period, Danieli explains.
Joint cooperation between Riva BES and Danieli’s technical teams led to a customised solution that enabled the use of the main foundations and limited plant stoppage, the supplier concludes.
