Klöckner & Co and Salzgitter AG say they have entered into a partnership aimed at stepping up the volume of green steel available on the market through one of Klöckner’s main outlets, Kallanish notes.
From end-2025, Salzgitter will be producing CO2-reduced steel from its new hydrogen-based “SALCOS” production route. Right from the beginning, Klöckner will be one of the first customers through its subsidiary Becker Stahl-Service, Germany’s largest steel service centre. The CO2-reduced steel from Salzgitter will then be available under the “Nexigen” umbrella brand under which Klöckner is offering its CO2-reduced steel and metal solutions.
“Under the Nexigen umbrella brand, we are transparently combining our CO2-reduced solutions in materials, processing and logistics. This enables us to assist our customers in consistently developing reliable and sustainable value chains,” says Klöckner chief executive Guido Kerkhoff.
Salzgitter ceo Gunnar Groebler adds: “The keen interest from industries, such as from the automotive and household appliance sectors, indicates that the market for green steel products is increasingly gaining traction.”
