Tata Steel Europe saw March-quarter deliveries rise 7% on-quarter to 2.13 million tonnes, thanks to the improving demand environment. However, product mix has been affected by the ongoing upgrade at the CM21 cold rolling mill. The relining of blast furnace no.6 at IJmuiden has started on schedule.
Compared to the year-earlier quarter, however, deliveries were down 11%.
Tata Steel Europe’s output was flat on-year at 2.31mt, although this was up 3% on the December quarter.
In the fiscal year through March 2023, Tata Steel Europe’s deliveries fell 10% on-year to 8.12mt, with production down 7% to 9.38mt.
Tata Steel Nederland invoked force majeure at the end of February after experiencing severe disruptions during the revamp of CM21 at IJmuiden (see Kallanish passim).
