Swedish steelmaker SSAB and services company BE Group have partnered to identify significant new demands and opportunities for fossil-free steel, the two companies said on May 22.
“We are extremely happy to welcome BE Group Oy as a fossil-free steel partner,” said Lotta Ruottinen, sales director for SSAB Europe.
“BE Group is focusing on expanding our offering within fossil-free steel to all of our markets,” said Peter Andersson, CEO at BE Group.
The partnership will help BE customers to better understand how to market and position their end products using premium fossil-free steel grades while ensuring them a stability as they make the transition to building fossil-free end products. The partnership will also help SSAB plan upcoming production runs for specific grades of fossil-free steels.
SSAB aims to deliver fossil-free steel at a commercial scale during 2026. SSAB works with iron ore producer LKAB and energy company Vattenfall as part of the HYBRIT initiative to develop a value chain for fossil-free iron- and steelmaking, replacing the coking coal traditionally used for iron ore-based steelmaking with fossil-free electricity and hydrogen.
BE Group is a trading and services company in steel, stainless steel and aluminium operating in Sweden, Finland, the Baltic States and Poland. The group is listed on the Nasdaq Stockholm exchange and it has Sweden and Finland as its largest markets.
