Roman Heide has become chief executive and chairman of Trinecke Zelezarny (TZ), replacing Jan Czudek who headed the company for 11 years, Kallanish learns from the Czech steelmaker.
Czudek, who also served on the management board for 23 years, will continue to serve on the supervisory board for some of the firm’s subsidiaries.
“We are on the door-step of major changes with significant investments and further modernisation of our operations. We are facing a difficult period with the introduction of ‘green steel’ in Europe, and it will be up to us to cope with the new environmental requirements. I expect to enter a professional environment where I will be a valid member and use all the practical experience I have gained so far,” Heide says.
Heide has held management positions at Pilsen STEEL, Vítkovice Heavy Machinery and Sheffield Forgemasters. Most recently, he was chairman and ceo at machine tool manufacturer SMT.
TZ said last month it plans to start re-using coke oven gas to heat various production units by year-end, saving on natural gas purchases. It will also start work this year on a new iron ore cold briquetting line, which will provide a portion of blast furnace feed (see Kallanish passim).
