EU to review anti-dumping measures on Chinese wire rod

The European Commission has launched an expiry review of the anti-dumping measures imposed on imports of wire rod originating in China.
The investigation will assess whether the expiry of the existing measures would lead to the continuation or recurrence of dumping and injury to the EU industry.
According to Notice C/2026/5244, published in the Official Journal of the European Union on October 12, 2026, the investigation was initiated following a request submitted by the European Steel Association (EUROFER) on June 30, 2026, on behalf of EU wire rod producers.
In its request, EUROFER highlighted unused capacity among Chinese producers, arguing that imports into the EU could increase if the measures were removed. The association claimed that the resumption of significant volumes of imports at dumped prices could lead to a recurrence of injury to EU producers. The Commission determined that sufficient evidence existed to initiate the investigation.
The products under review include hot-rolled bars and rods in irregularly wound coils, made of iron, non-alloy steel or alloy steel, excluding stainless steel. These products are currently classified under CN codes 72131000, 72132000, 72139110, 72139120, 72139141, 72139149, 72139170, 72139190, 72139910, 72139990, 72271000, 72272000, 72279010, 72279050 and 72279095.
The investigation into the likelihood of continuation or recurrence of dumping will cover the period from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026. The injury assessment will examine trends from January 1, 2023, through the end of the review investigation period.
Interested parties may submit comments on the request and the initiation of the investigation within 37 days of the publication of the notice. The investigation is expected to be completed within 12 months under normal circumstances and, in any case, no later than 15 months.
