ABP/Tata Steel ink long-term Port Talbot agreement

Associated British Ports (ABP) tells Kallanish that it has established a long-term shipping agreement with Tata Steel’s Port Talbot plant in Wales.

Under the new 10-year agreement, the ports company will ship raw materials into the plant’s integrated dock in Port Talbot. It will also ship finished products for export from ABP’s facility in Newport further along the Welsh coast.

The new agreement will provide additional opportunities for use of the north side of the jetty, at Port Talbot. It will also facilitate improved access to port development land on the northern side of the port. It is envisaged that these factors taken together can help facilitate investment and create a number of new employment opportunities in the region, ABP says.

Additionally, ABP will be working jointly on new projects with Tata Steel to build upon the forward-looking commercial relationship between both parties, the port operator says.

“For us the ability to bring in raw materials to Port Talbot and export our products globally via the Port of Newport is a vital business requirement,” says Martin Brunnock, Tata Steel director of Strip Products, UK.
