Acerinox, the Spanish-headquartered stainless steel supplier, has announced to its European clients the decision to implement an energy surcharge on all new deliveries from January, Kallanish learns.
The surcharge will be included in the alloy surcharge that is set monthly, the firm says in a letter to its clients. The extra will be calculated monthly and will be influenced by the average cost of electricity and gas.
The company stresses that the energy surcharge will nevertheless not cover 100% of the energy costs it incurs. For January, the energy surcharge will be €253/tonne ($287) for flat products and €284/t for long products.
The move by Acerinox follows similar moves by other European steelmakers implemented since the end of the third quarter of 2021.
