British Steel has announced that it is reducing or pausing production at some of its UK units. The long products’ specialist, recently acquired by China’s Jingye, is nevertheless keeping both its blast furnaces in Scunthorpe operational, in line with national government guidance.
The company paused production last week for a period of three weeks at the special profiles plant in Skinningrove in north-east England. Operations are also being reduced at the Lisburn service centre in Northern Ireland for a short period of time.
“These are both temporary measures in the face of difficult market conditions, and we’ll provide all the support our employees deserve and require. Our other sites continue to operate,” the company says in a note seen by Kallanish.
