Spanish-headquartered long products supplier Celsa has announced the initiation of construction work for its rolling mill in France, Kallanish learns from the company.
“This operation will position Celsa as the largest steel complex in southern France and will be an element of great strategic value for the Group’s growth. With the construction of the new rolling mill, the current Boucau-Tarnos steelworks will go from developing steel billets to producing finished products, thus increasing its competitiveness and profitability,” explains Celsa president Francesc Rubiralta. The project will also enable the steelmaker to improve its presence in the French and Benelux markets, he adds.
The new rolling mill is expected to be operational in twenty months. Celsa estimates that around 140 new direct and 420 indirect jobs will be created in addition to its current 1400 employees in France.
The project is part of the company’s development programme for the years 2016-2022. The investment in the new mill is valued at €60 million ($66.0m).
