Stakeholders of Germany’s steel industry and policy-makers will congregate on 16 November at a National Steel Summit, organised by the economy ministry of Lower Saxony in Salzgitter, Kallanish has learned.
The line-up from the political side will feature the prime ministers and economy ministers from the largest steel-making states, Lower Saxony and North Rhine Westphalia. From the industry’s side, speakers include the chiefs of SHS Stahl-Holding Saar, GMH Gruppe, Swiss Steel, ArcelorMittal Germany, and more. Salzgitter’s Gunnar Groebler appears as the current chairman of national steel federation WV Stahl, and as host, along with Lower Saxony’s political representatives.
The core of the one-day event will be a joint position paper by the steel industry representatives and union IG Metall, which is sending its deputy chairman Jürgen Kerner.
The event is the largest of its kind since two smaller meetings one year ago in November 2026.
The invitation to the event goes with dedicated website (https://stahlgipfel2026.de/).
Coincidentally, it came one day after a fresh cause of confrontation emerged between the IG Metall and the steel employers. On Monday, the union worded its claim for a wage hike for steelworkers by 5%, which was immediately dismissed by the employers.
