Italy’s Arvedi says no coronavirus impact

Italian steelmaker Arvedi today said production and deliveries of all of the group’s companies are unaffected by the coronavirus outbreak in northern Italy.

“There are no logistic inefficiencies both in Italy and abroad,” the company said in a release sent to Argus. Cremona, where Arvedi’s facilities are located, is not in the so-called “red zone” of the viral outbreak so there are no restrictions on entry to the territory.

Market chatter today suggested there were few cancelled orders in the domestic market on truck drivers not willing to travel to Cremona, while buyers in Germany reported issues with wagon availability following restrictions on train travel in Austria. There were also unconfirmed reports of workers catching the virus this week.
