Northern European long steel producers look for prices to rise on higher costs

Prices for steel rebar and wire rod in Northern Europe were largely unchanged during the week to Wednesday October 18, but market participants forecast that prices would rise because of higher input costs.

Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel reinforcing bar (rebar), domestic, delivered Northern Europe, was €600-620 ($633-655) per tonne on Wednesday, unchanged from a week earlier.

Most market participants expected prices to go up by €20-40 per tonne in the coming week because of slow import trading and rising energy costs.

The weekly price assessment for steel wire rod (mesh quality), domestic, delivered Northern Europe, was €600-605 per tonne on Wednesday, stable week-on-week.
