Rainer Böse has been appointed the new chief executive of ArcelorMittal Germany, in addition to his position as chairman of the management at the group’s two strip mills in Bremen and Eisenhüttenstadt.
He succeeds Thomas Bünger, who previously held the same positions and left the company in May, Kallanish learns.
Böse, aged 57, has held various positions at ArcelorMittal. Most recently, from 2017 until May this year, he was in charge of industrial customers in northern Europe at the group’s ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products unit as chief marketing officer.
Although ArcelorMittal recently stopped its plans for a transition towards direct reduction in Germany, in his inaugural words Bünger mentioned the “next step is transformation to climate-neutral steel production”. This will only be possible if policymakers act to facilitate affordable energy for steelmakers, he added.
