Salzgitter Mannesmann Stahlservice (SMS) is the name of the two Steel Service Centres owned by German Steel and Technology company Salzgitter AG.
Due to being a member of stock listed Salzgitter AG, SMS has the full power and support of the corporate organisation and the steel mill in Salzgitter, as well as being able to operate in a flexible and Service Centre like way.
SMS has a capacity of over 600,000t of steel service, with four slitting lines, four cut to length lines, both equally split over the two production sites as well as various dedicated multi blanking lines for specific industries.
An array of shears completes the main production program. The inventory carried is usually well over 100,000t.
Due to water access and railroad access with own Salzgitter trains and train operators, SMS has a strong and secure supply chain.
SMS sells material from Salzgitter Flachstahl, as well as from an array of other European and International suppliers to always have the right fit for the customers.
Due to the strongly developed Customer Support organisation, SMS is able to help customers use the steel in an optimal way.
SMS holds ISO 9001, IATF 16949 as well as ISO 14001 certificates.
Salzgitter is at the forefront of decarbonizing the steel making process. SMS carries the SALCOS® low CO2-products produced by Salzgitter and as such takes responsibility for its share of reduction of its CO2 footprint.
