thyssenkrupp invests in stainless narrow strip welding

thyssenkrupp Materials Processing Europe has further expanded its services business at its narrow strip centre in Leverkusen, Kallanish learns from the company.

The distribution division of thyssenkrupp group has installed a new tungsten inert gas (TIG) welder for stainless steel which can weld narrow strip of up to 2 millimetres thickness. Made by IDEAL-Werk specifically for the company’s requirements, the device and carries out welding operations fully automatically with strip thicknesses of 0.5-2mm and widths of 12-65mm.

The new TIG welder has a special feature, the company says. It executes the weld at an oblique angle, not the usual 90 degrees, which almost completely rules out breakages depending on type of further processing. Crater-free surfaces are obtained using template plates. As a portable unit, the machine can be used at all the jumbo coilers, which offer efficiency advantages, and reduce customers’ setup times, the company claims.

The instalment of the welder comes in response to increased customer requirements, the company notes.
