thyssenkrupp Materials expands Stuttgart site

thyssenkrupp Materials Processing is expanding its capacities and investing a low double-digit million-euro amount at its site in Stuttgart, Germany, Kallanish hears from the distribution division of thyssenkrupp AG.

The company plans to install two new processing lines, and to build a new 2,000 square metre warehouse. The aim is to increase production, packaging and storage capacities and to optimise them digitally. Construction work and preparations for the installation of the new slitting and packaging systems has already begun this month.

The slitting line is expected to be operational by September 2025. Supplied by Tilgert, it will increase the total capacity to 350,000 tonnes/year and provide a comprehensive processing portfolio in thicknesses from 0.2 to 5.0mm. In addition to conventional rolled steel, it can also process electrical steel strip.

In order to match the expanded production capacities, a new high-performance packaging line will be installed in spring 2025. Supplied by Italian company Promec, it will feature a high degree of automation and the ability to process heavy finished materials,

In addition to the implementation of new machines, the digital networking of the site will be an important part of the investment, tk Materials notes. With a fully automated digital setup and production process monitoring, the company expects to speed up and better coordinate individual production steps. To this end, its subsidiary thyssenkrupp Materials IoT has set up a central digital infrastructure that coordinates all process steps from the supply chain to the plant.
