European Commission announces Q2 2026 CBAM certificate price

The European Commission has announced the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) certificate price for the second quarter of 2026 at EUR 75.28 per tonne. The newly announced price is slightly lower than the EUR 75.36 per tonne set for the first quarter of 2026.
According to the European Commission, CBAM certificate prices will be set on a quarterly basis throughout 2026. Four certificate prices will be announced during the year, with each price applying only to the embedded emissions of CBAM-covered goods imported into the European Union during the relevant quarter.
The Commission stated that the quarterly certificate prices will be calculated based on the average clearing price of auctions under the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). This methodology is intended to ensure fair and consistent alignment with the EU carbon market. Starting from 2027, CBAM certificate prices will be calculated and published on a weekly basis.
The Commission also reminded authorised CBAM declarants that they will begin purchasing certificates from February 2027 to cover imports made during 2026. It added that the early publication of certificate prices is intended to improve cost predictability, provide timely information to stakeholders, and reduce uncertainty arising from unofficial market price estimates.
